Where this is
Being built in the open, and not yet taking money.
The service works. The checkout does not — and rather than hide that behind a “coming soon”, here is exactly what is real, what is not, and what would genuinely help.
What is real
Everything the front page describes. A permanent CNAME into our zone, an
answer published only while a certificate authority is asking, a record of every
publication and every query it drew. That is running, it is tested end to end against a
real ACME server, and it is what you would be using.
What is not
Payment. The checkout asks for an amount and takes no card, because there is nothing behind it yet. The credit it adds is real — it lands in the account and is spent like any other credit — but no money moves, and nothing is owed.
It exists in that half-state deliberately. The credit model is the part worth getting wrong early and cheaply: how an account is funded, what happens when it runs out, what a team account can do that a personal one cannot. Those are answered. Which payment provider takes the card is the easy question, and answering it first would have proved nothing.
What would help
- Use it and break it. The most useful thing anybody can do is point it at a domain that matters and tell us what went wrong. Every assumption in here was made by somebody who already knew how it worked.
-
Tell us which client you run. The challenge API speaks lego’s
httpreqprotocol and is growing acme-dns support. If yours is neither, that is worth knowing before the adapter list is decided rather than after. - Say what is missing. Not features — situations. The setup you have that this does not fit is more useful than a feature request, because the fix is often not the feature you would have asked for.
- Wait, if you were about to pay. When payment goes live, the accounts and the credit in them are already there; nothing you build now has to be rebuilt.
